10 OUT OF 10 for this outstandingly lovely property just recently rebuilt and restored in the perfect location, with breathtaking views, superb interior design – which mixes the classical with the modern – and a stunning landscaped garden with panoramic swimming pool.
Perched on a hillside in Cortona’s prestigious Metelliano-Pergo area this property definitely has “the wow factor” – it is simply gorgeous!
Driving into the property one is immediately struck by the lay out of the surrounding grounds filled with olive trees, flower beds, and stepped terraces which have been professionally designed to give grace to the whole property. Also difficult to ignore are the amazing views which take in the whole of the Pergo valley and the wide expanse of the Val di Chiana.
There is a car park to the far side of the property from which one walks up to the house past olive trees and flower beds and a water fountain. In the furthest corner, shaded by secular trees, there is wonderful barbecue pit which also enjoys the views.
The front façade of the house has both a covered loggia and a pergola for dining outside and there is also a wonderful summer kitchen with traditional pizza oven hand-crafted in stone and a stone built barbecue with a practical central island for making pizzas and preparing the barbecues.
To the side of the house, positioned to enjoy the surrounding panorama is the swimming pool with Roman (walk in) steps and a second water fountain whose sonorous effects just add to the peaceful atmosphere of the property.
From the covered porch one enters into a light and spacious entrance hall to the right of which there is a sitting room and to the left a chef’s kitchen in marble. The rooms are divided by wide open arches providing light and a delightful sense of space.
Off the kitchen is a dining room and guest cloakroom and beyond this a large double bedroom with an en suite which has its own private access and could be made into an independent apartment.
The handcrafted central staircase has been built in traditional stone, but the steps are suspended directly from the wall; this is not merel access to the first floor – it is a work of art!
On the first floor where everything is laid in seasoned planks of olive wood, there is the master bedroom with en suite which enjoys a fabulous panorama from the large windows on two sides of the room and also a third en suite bedroom. All of the bathrooms are large, laid in travetine stone and could be considered, as bathrooms go, the height of luxury.
In fact, the quality of the materials throughout the house is exceptional and EVERY attention has been given to detail. The interior design, combining modern ideas with traditional materials, creates a stunning effect in a luxurious, comfortable, light and welcoming environment.
This property is a showcase. It is a genuine work of art and I take my hat off to the architect, the landscape designer and the owners themselves for the dedication and flair which is displayed throughout the property. Anyone fortunate enough to have the funds to buy this charming, elegant and chic property shouldn’t hesitate for one moment.
